About Dipdive
What is Dipdive?
Dipdive is the world's first “Lifestyle Engine”; a slick mash-up of news, music, and entertainment content where you can connect directly with your favorite Artists, and those same Artists connect directly with you. Dipdive gives you a place to come and kick up your feet, letting you experience cutting edge creative-type creations served up by the hottest Tastemakers and Artists on the planet.
So, what’s with the “beta” label?
Currently Dipdive is a beta release. “Beta” is a term our know-it-all tech guys use when they could just as easily say “work-in-progress”. What that means for you is that you can expect to see more content and some even cooler functionality debuting over the next few months. In the meantime we look forward to receiving feedback from you as we continue the development process. So please, tell us what you think by using the Report a Problem page. And thanks in advance!
Who is Mr. Dippy?
Mr. Dippy knows what's going on at Dipdive. He’s the maker, the creator, the go-to Dipdive guy that has the in on everything you want and need to see here. He’s the right Dipdive member to befriend!
What can and can't I do at Dipdive?
You can't be mean at Dipdive. No exceptions. Dipdive is the convergence and alignment of too many universal forces for any overt negativity to come along and mess it up. But seriously, this is a place where people come together to celebrate; not hate. Connect. Don't create disconnects. A part of that also means that we must all respect the art and materials owned by the Artists and your fellow Dipdive members. Take care to respect content owned by others and we can all make Dipdive a place where creativity and entertainment flow.
Can I get my own Dipdive channel?
One of the things that makes Dipdive so special and unique is that the content you experience has been highlighted by our trendmaking "Tastemakers" as being the best, coolest, hippest content that people want to see. Because of this, there is a process we implement which makes sure that the only thing you see is of the utmost quality.
That's the long answer.
The short answer is "not right now". But come up with something really, really, mind-blowingly cool and we'll think about it.
Can I purchase the “Yes We Can” MP3 or DVD?
I’m sorry we don’t offer the “Yes We Can “ song or DVD for purchase or other use. You can embed media from Dipdive. If you have an itch to buy something now, check out the It’s a New Day Channel to shop for the America's Song and It's a New Day MP3s.
Channels
What are channels?
Channels are the backbone of the Dipdive experience. It is here where you find the groupings of content (music, videos, and other cool stuff), members, and all the other epic mash-up convergent type stuff you came here for. With channels, you get to connect directly with Artists and get the latest and greatest on each and every move they make, whether on tour, in the studio, or running hysterically from the paparazzi. In the channels area you can also find other fans of the Artists that you love and connect with them as well, creating a community that's dedicated to exploring and celebrating everything that's cool and interesting about your Artist and their art.
How do I find channels?
Click the "Channels" link in the navigation bar at the top of every page. The drop-down menu will open in "Quickview Mode" and show you Channels that are available. Click the "Channel Finder" link from the drop-down to see a complete list of Channels with descriptions. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also search for channels to find something out there that may be hiding but is completely new to you.
What can I do at a channel?
Channels are where you get to watch all the content, videos, and sing-along with songs in a channel's playlist. Since the channel is the centerpiece to the finding everything you can in regards to connecting to an Artist or Cause, you can also find News, view picture albums, post info on forums, find links, read blogs, and find events associated with your channel.
What happens when I subscribe to a channel?
When you subscribe to a channel it appears on your subscriptions page. New content just added from your subscribed channels is displayed on your member page and can even be viewed at the top of the page in your member toolbar. No waiting. Your red carpet all the way. It's like going into the club through the V.I.P. line and skipping that annoying bouncer. Instant access.
I added something to 'my library', where did it go?
You can upload your own stuff to your media library, but you can just as easily take media from others. It’s kind of like stealing made legal. When you add anything to your library it’s available to you just like your own uploads are. To experience the new goodies, click ‘manage media’ near any of your media players or select it from the TV pull-down in your toolbar at the top of the page.
My Account
How do I create an account?

After completing the registration, keep an eye on your spam/junk folder. It might just end up there.
Twitter much?
If you're already busy tweeting and want to keep your Dipdive peeps in the know, you can easily feed your tweets to your Dipdive profile page. Go to your "Settings" and scroll down to "Content Import" and follow the signs to Twitter. Once you're done following the directions and entering your Twitter screen name, your tweets will show up in the "What's Up" area of your Dipdive member profile.
How do I share my content?
To set your default sharing preferences for new media and pictures you upload to Dipdive, go to your member “Settings” page and scroll down to “Sharing.”
However, changing sharing options in your Settings does NOT affect media already uploaded. Each individual media item remembers its own sharing setting. You can change sharing options on a per media basis in “Manage Media” and “Manage Pictures.” Check the media you've already uploaded to verify the sharing settings match your preferences.
See the FAQ "Media" section to learn more about sharing media through embedding content outside of Dipdive.
Why do I have to be 13 years or older?
In order to ensure a safe online environment, Dipdive limits the access of people younger than 13 years of age. Dipdive takes very seriously the online safety of minors and, to comply with state and federal laws, does not give them access to member features on the site.
I didn't receive the e-mail, what can I do?
If you've mistyped your e-mail address or you did not receive the activation e-mail, check your spam folder or try sending it again to the correct e-mail address. If you've already left the sign up page, you can also use the "recover password" link near the log in form. We promise we sent it, but sometimes, very rarely, they get lost or delayed along the way. Once you've corrected the info the e-mail should make it to you safe and sound.
I lost my member name / password, what can I do?
Under the username field at the top of the page is a recover password link. Click on it and on the next page you will be directed to enter either the username or e-mail address associated with your account.Enter the correct information then click "recover password". An e-mail will be sent to your address with a link to a page letting you reset your password. Fill in all the correct information, hit Enter then you're done.
How can I change my account details?
After you create it, you have the option to change certain aspects of your account to customize it and make it more "you". In order to change account details click "settings" then on the next page click the "edit" button underneath whatever you want to change.
You can find your settings in the “My Settings” tab on your page or in the top right corner of your toolbar at the top of the page.
How can I change the look of my pages?
Dipdive has the ability to change the overall color with the snap of a virtual finger. To change the color theme of your profile, select "edit" in your settings page, then select your color. The color will change automatically and you're done. You don't need to select enter, save, ok or anything. Pretty cool huh? Go there often to check if new styles have been released.
What are these badges?
Badges show off the things that make a member just a little bit special. Certain achievements or actions are awarded with a badge. Currently badges are given to members who have imported their account from Blackeyedpeas.com (Peabody badge), Dipdive Channel Contributors (Star badge), Dipdive staff (Staff badge). If you have a badge it's definitely something to be proud of.
How do I stay in touch with my friends and favorite channels?
With e-mail notifications we will keep you updated about the activity of your friends and favorite channels. You can keep tabs on all your friends, or maybe just your best friends. Go to your "Settings," scroll down to "E-mail notifications," and select your preferences. If instant e-mails are too much for your liking you can also choose to receive a weekly update. This e-mail arrives only once a week and contains a summary of everything that happens that week.
Why do some members have "Channel Contributions" on their member profile?
Dipdive content providers and creators walk among you! When you see "Channel Contributions" on a member profile you've found a member who creates and provides content to one or more of our Dipdive channels. Sometimes it's the band and sometimes it's someone like you or me. These are people to befriend and follow if you like the channels they tend to provide content for.
How do I deactivate my account?
Your account can be deactivated on your member “Settings” page. Once on you "Settings" page, please scroll down to “Deactivate account.” Your profile will be ‘hidden’ with a “no longer active” message but you’ll keep all your peeps and content, incase you decide to reactivate your account.
If you change your mind, after you "Deactivate account," you'll have the option to "Reactivate account." We know that change happens. We hope that you check back with Dipdive in the future.
Media
Can I upload anything I want?
One of the things that makes Dipdive a cool online experience is the ability for you to upload your own content. While we do want to maximize the flexibility you have in creating your own personal space there are however some limitations to just what it is that you can upload. In order to protect everyone involved (you included) and comply with our Terms of Service, you may only upload images and media that do not violate the terms of copyright from previous existing owners of the image. The non-legal form of saying that is basically this; you should not upload images and media that you don’t already own. If media that you own is rejected, please let us know by clicking the "Report a Problem" link at the bottom of the page. Also, Dipdive has some size allowances on the files you upload as well. - Pictures are limited on 5MB per image.- Media for members is limited to 250MB per file.- Media for channels is limited to 1GB per file.
What file formats are accepted?
Dipdive can handle a variety of video formats/sizes up to 1080p including: 3GP, AVI, FLV, M1V, MKV, MOV, MP4, MPEG, MPG, and WMV.
How do I embed a video at Dipdive?
Embedding videos in comments or blogs gives you that-many-more ways to express just what it is you’re feeling about a particular subject or topic at any given moment. “But how exactly do you embed videos,” you ask? Easy.Wherever a user has the ability to comment or blog, there is an “E” icon at the very end of the list, inside the formatting tool bar. Click the “E” and a separate window will open. Here is where you embed the code by copy and pasting the url (by the way; Ctrl-C [copy] and Ctrl-V [paste] is the easiest way to do this). To date the accepted sources for video links are ABC, BlipTV, Break, CNN, DailyMotion, Dipdive, Google Video, Hulu, Meta Cafe, MSNBC, MTV, MySpace, REELZCHANNEL, VEVO, Vimeo, Yahoo, and YouTube. Once you are satisfied, click “Insert”. Just like that, your video appears in the comment or blog area! It’s kind of like magic but way more technical than that.
How do I embed a video from Dipdive?
Share the love and embed Dipdive media! Whenever you are playing media a small blue icon with an arrow (contextual menu) is displayed in its upper right-hand corner. When you click the icon a menu will appear that lets you fool around with what you’re watching. Among the options that appear is an “Embed” control. Click it and select either “Copy Link” or “Copy Code” and follow the directions at the site you’d like to embed the content you’re watching.
So now you may ask, “Can others embed my stuff too?” Yes, and that’s a good thing! No matter where your stuff is, it will lead people back to your TV on Dipdive. If anything, the people that add your stuff to their websites will only help you make your content more popular and you could be the next Superstar.
I uploaded a file but it gets rejected.
When you upload video or audio to Dipdive, we need to go through a few steps to make sure you are allowed to spread it around and share the love. How we do this is we take the file’s fingerprint and check it against a database. If the file is hot (the stolen variety, not the cool creative variety) we have no choice but to lock it up. Stay away from files that are rejected, you’ll get in trouble if you don’t.
I added a video but I can't see it in the site?
Since there are all sorts of different files types and codes for video we’ve got to convert it to a format that will play smoothly on the Dipdive player (which we know you’ve been playing with. Go ahead and admit it. Cool huh?) When you upload a video and it passes the fingerprint check, your video gets converted and that can take while. To make sure you can go about your business using the other features of the site while you wait, we do add the video to your library, so that you know it will be there for you when it’s all ready and converted. But until we’re ready with the video, it won’t show up in the site.
How do I organize and order my media?
Dipdive allows you to organize the media that you have uploaded or taken from others. From your library you can sort media into playlists. Your Dipdive TV player only plays playlists, so you really should put a few together with your favorite audio and video. To organize and manage your media select the video or music, drag it over, then drop it into the playlist you want it to appear in.If you are inside a playlist you can also change the order of its contents by dragging an item up or down the list. You can do the same with playlists; drag them up and down to change their order. Here’s a tip: Grab an item where your mouse cursor turns into a four-headed arrow pointer.
What happens when I 'turn off' one of my files?
When you turn off one of your files, it remains in the system but we hide it from all the media players. Not just your own, but also for anyone that added the file to their library. To view just what these files are, go into the area where you add and view files and it will appear there. When you turn a file back on, it may take a moment before it appears in the site again.
I want to record my webcam, but nothing happens?
Firstly, and often overlooked—in order to view webcam video, you do need a connected, working webcam. If you do have a webcam, the recorder will first ask if Dipdive is allowed to use the webcam. Once you’ve allowed us to use your cam, it may not actually be selected as the webcam device. If no image shows up or something that’s not your webcam shows up, here’s what you do:
1) Right-click or command-click on the webcam recorder area. 2) From the context menu, select ‘Settings…’ and a little window should appear. 3) From the little icon tabs at the bottom, select the one with a webcam icon. 4) If you have multiple video devices, your webcam should be in the pull-down list. Select it. 5) Press the close button and if your cam works properly your face now appears in the page.
How can I take media from others?
It’s in our human nature that when you see something cool, you’ve just got to have it too. Our highly trained behavioral analysis team has realized this (by watching babies take toys away from each other) so we figured we’d help out. When you are playing the media of a Channel or Member a toolbar under the video allows you to "Favorite" the media item. When you click the "Favorite" button (with the little heart icon) a menu will appear that lets you add the item to your own media library. Click it then whatever you’re currently watching is sent straight to your media library. Now you may ask, “So they can take my stuff too?” Yes, but that’s a good thing. No matter where your stuff is, the comments and the views are all added to your file. If anything, the people that add your stuff to their pages will only help you make it more popular and as a result, you get more juice and may very well be the next Superstar.
Twitter Embedded Media
Dipdive has been added to the list of embedded media supported content sites on #NewTwitter. When a Dipdive picture or video URL is tweeted, the content is viewable in the tweet preview pane on Twitter.com for logged in Twitter users. This should help any Dipdive content that you share be seen by more people! Thanks to our great friends at Twitter on getting that done with us!
Pictures
How do I organize and order my pictures?
Dipdive allows you to manage pictures that appear in your sets that you’ve created. Initially when you create a set category, you must manually add the files that you want to appear in that set.
To organize and manage your pictures select them, drag them over to the set you want them to appear in, then drop it into the set. Simple and your done.
Can I take pictures from others?
You bet! When you are viewing a picture on a Dipdive Channel or Member Profile that you want to add to your picture library, just "favorite" it in the share toolbar under the image.
Can I upload anything I want?
The ability for you to upload your own content is one of the things that makes Dipdive a cool online experience. While we do want to maximize the flexibility you have in creating your own personal space there are however some limitations to just what it is that you can upload. The non-legal form of saying that is basically this; try not to upload images that you don’t already own. (are there Size restrictions?)
Friends
How do I befriend another member?
Creating and connecting with friends that have similar interests, likes, and passions is another great feature of the Dipdive experience. It’s so much more fun to talk to someone when you know they have that same burning passion for the Artists and art that you do.
In order to connect with friends, Dipdive has made the process as simple and painless as possible. Once you’ve searched for and found the friend you’re looking for, simply click the befriend button by their name. A notification will be received by that person who will either accept or decline your friendship attempt. If you've received an invite to be someone's friend, accept the invite. Unless that is, you hate them, in which case you’re probably better of avoiding them and saying “no”.
What happens when I make someone a best friend?
Best friends are the friends you’re closest to or most interested in. Use the context menu to turn a friend into a best friend or a best friend into a normal friend. Best friends are easy to find because we list them separately from your other friends. You can also choose to receive instant e-mail notifications from your best friends only. Read “How do I stay in touch with my friends and favorite channels?"

In order to find a member all you’ve got to do is run a simple search for whomever it is you’re looking to find. To find a member, go to “Search”, use the pull-down list and select “Members”, then type the name or user ID of the member.
Can I see what my friends are up to?
Yes, on your home page all the goings on of people in your friends list as well as updates on channels will appear. This is a good way of seeing all the things that are going on at Dipdive and a great way of staying up with the coolest trends and happenings at the site. You can also enable e-mail notifications for your friends or best friends. You can get instant, daily or weekly e-mails with the updates of your friends. Read "How do I stay in touch with my friends and favorite channels?".
How do I remove a friend?
It happens to us all at some point. That person you once called friend is no longer welcome in the realm of your good graces anymore. But what does that mean in terms of getting rid of them from your Dipdive friends list? Simple.
On the friends page go to member name that you want to remove. When the cursor runs over that person’s name it will highlight a pull-down list. Click the arrow and select “Remove Friendship”. You will be asked to confirm this decision, at which point you should probably contemplate just how much this person actually means to you. If they don’t make the cut, then let them go.
Do you need to block another member?
We all have stalkers from our past or people we'd rather not run into. Dipdive is sensitive to your needs and has provided you with the tools to be incognito and ditch your ex whoever. To view or manage your list of blocked members, got to "Settings" and scroll down to "Block List." You'll be able to search for the specific member you'd like to block, no questions asked, your reasons are your own and the blocked member won't be notified.
Of course if and when you make up, you can unblock them and share the love by removing them from your blocked list.
Blogging
How do I add pictures to my blog?
In order to add an image to your blog entry click the image icon second-to-last on the formatting tool bar. A small window will appear where you need to input the information about your image which includes: the url where it is located, the image description, how you want to align the image in regards to the text, pixel dimensions, the size of the border around the image, and horizontal and vertical space. Once you have input all of the correct info, click insert and you’re on your way to a bigger, brighter, more colorful blog posting.
What about embedding videos in my blogs?
Wherever a user has the ability to comment or blog, there is an “E” icon at the very end of the list, inside the formatting tool bar. Click the “E” and a separate window will open. Here is where you embed the code by copy and pasting the url (by the way; Ctrl-C [copy] and Ctrl-V [paste] is the easiest way to do this). To date the accepted sources for video links are Yahoo, YouTube, ABC, MTV, MSNBC, Hulu, shadowbox, Musicane, Break, MaySace, Blip.tv, Google Video, Dailymotion, Metacafe, Vimeo, and movieclips. Once you are satisfied, click “Insert”. Just like that, your video appears in the comment or blog area! It’s kind of like magic but way more technical than that.
Subscriptions
Can I see what happens at my channel subscriptions?

Subscriptions pages act as a short cut and direct link to the item that you want to experience. You can also enable e-mail notifications for your channels subscriptions. Messages
How do I send someone a message?
Dipdive allows for you to communicate with your friends privately. If there’s anything you want to say that you don’t quite want to declare publically as a comment, go to the friend’s page, then click “talk” next to the icon. Next, write your message in the blank field, then once your message is complete click “Send Message”.
Does the other person know I'm sending messages?
Members, including yourself, will be alerted to messages sent to them in one of two ways. The first is when they log into their Dipdive account they will see that they have a message waiting for them in their inbox. The second happens by receiving a message notification at their personal e-mail address indicating that someone...or something...has just blessed them with your witty commentary or scintillating gossip/news for the day.
My old messages get removed, can I save them?
Your old messages periodically get automatically removed from your inbox, so if you want to hold on to them and cherish them for all time you’ve got to save them manually. To save messages, go to “My conversations”. A list will appear in which you must click “save” next to the message that you want to keep. Do that and you’re done; message saved and stored until you want to get rid of it.
