Generation gap?

Written by AY3 on July 29, 2010

Recently I was working on a film shoot with a young director in his 20's. What I noticed was that one of the male actors, who was in his 60's, thought he could tell the director what to do when it came to his scenes. Was it that he was unprofessional, disrespectful or just thought he was doing the right thing? I'm not quite sure, but I wasn't a good thing to see. Initial thought was that he thought that the director, being young and up and coming wasn't up to the task. I just thought it was interesting how someone who was older thought he could run things and undermine the abilities of the director.

I hope people give younger generations and young people a chance before making judgements.

Well said! :) It's so frustrating when older people can disregard younger generations simply due to their age and experience. It is this assumption that would stop young talent emerging and stop growth and improvements.

I experienced something similar when as a 22 yr old from Uni I went inot the energy industry and was soon having meetings with people ranging from engineers to MDs, niether of which wanted to accept a young girl could advise them. I learnt that cheesy as this sounds knowledge is power.  Nothing can deny hard facts when they are put in front of you, and regarless of age, gender, whatever, having the confidence to talk about things confortably and with authority nearly always gains respect. Thanks for posting.
