Since when do children vote? About marriage?

Written by Apathy on October 28, 2008

Ok....so I'm in San Marcos CA for the weekend, and I'm driving down the street and there's a line of kids, as in children, marching down the street with 'Yes on 8' signs.

What do children know about Gay Marriage? And the rights associated? All they know is that someone else feeds them, clothes them, and tells them when to clean their room. Oh, yeah, and they know exactly what their parents and church want them to know. As in.....someone else's agenda.

I came home to a Yes on 8 sign between my house and the neighbor's....so I asked him to take it down. I was nice. I even asked him why he would put a sign that advocates for the denial of rights to other adults in front tof his house. He said something about it not being fair to the kids that would be raised in a same sex household...their confusion or some crap. I reminded him that we should be more worried about the 'men' who impregnate women and then leave them to raise the kids themselves...those are the people who are causing problems for children, not the gay couples that are committed and want to build a family. He took the sign down.

What's this I hear about 'Protecting' marriage?

I'm not gay; and I'm married to a beautiful, smart, vibrant woman. I 'protect' marriage by having a good one, not by marching my children up and down the street pretending to be for a measure that is defined by telling someone else that they can't be married because they're not like someone else.

  • Protect marriage by not cheating on your spouse.
  • Protect marriage by not beating up your wife because you're not man enough to control your temper.
  • Protect marriage by showing your kids that being married is about loving, not yelling.
  • Protect marriage by respecting people who have the courage to forge a lasting monogamous relationship.

I  believe that if you want to vote for something, even if I disagree, you have the right to do it. I believe that if you feel strongly that your Sunday Book  tells you that other people shouldn't have the same rights you do, and you want to live by that Book, you have the right to want things to be that way. But I also know this...if you judge others, you will be judged yourself. And if you deny rights to other people, you may one day lose your rights. And if you are a bigot, in the end, your Sunday Book will not be enough justification to keep you from being treated like a bigot. And your children, who are now your minions, might wake up one day and realize that they are gay. And then they might want to get married. And then you will face your own hypocrisy.

Worry about YOUR marriage. Take care of YOUR marriage. Don't be a bigot.
