Time by Elbisrever
Photographer: me

And finally, after 2 years of slowly painting ( i was busy doing other things :P) I completed my second painting.

Obviously, the painting is about time, as it is always something I'm thinking about. Time goes to fast, sometimes not fast enough etc etc.
To explain the painting:

* The large hourglass in the middle is ofcourse a statement of time. You'll also see that the two glasses have faces, the upper normal and emotionless, the lower one with an expression of fear. And there is a crack in the lower glass, out of which the sand leaks. This represents the fact, that we ( at least I) want to hold on to memories very bad sometimes, but no matter what we do to hold on ( like taking pictures, or films) eventually the memories will fade from our minds ( hench the leaking of the sand), and they won't be as 'alive' as the actual moment. This is something that I sometimes bother with, however by putting it in a painting has learned me to let it go.

*The sand forms a long road, on which three figures walk. This represents our life; we walk it from beginning till end.

*The three figures come out of each other while walking the 'liferoad'. Muscle out of skin, bones out of muscle. This represent that everything will always change and nothing lasts.

*At the end of the road stands a mirror, flanked by two statues, one with a weigh, the other with a sword. These two obviously represent justice. The mirror itself gives the reflection on our life as we get to the end of it ( hench the fact that the mirror is on the end of the road). When you reach the end of your life, you have to look into the mirror and ask yourself if you've made the best of it, and if you've made yourself and others better along the way.

This is stunning!  The subtle details in your painting are self explanatory (or so I thought) but after reading your comments, I had a better understanding of your interpretation.  Life is full of change, it’s best to embrace it.  I also see opportunity to go back in life and right the wrongs before we reach the mirror!  Very impressive!!
