My Take on The E.N.D (Part 2)
Written by MarsRam on July 2, 2009
Boom Boom Pow: Being the first track of the album, it defines its theme. Released as the first single of The E.N.D on March 30, 2009 it did not take long for it to climb to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart; where it stayed for 12 weeks. A solid track, released 10 weeks before the release of the album, its purpose was to pave the way. It did that admirably, acclimatizing millions of listeners to the new BEP sound.
I Gotta Feeling: A feel good party track – for that matter, these are all party tracks. But this particular track has an indefinable permissive air to it. A sort of forbidden fruit syndrome. The studio music video is somewhat illusive and disjointed, with a recurring theme of young people out for a no-holds barred evening of merrymaking. I rate this the number one track of the album, ahead of Boom Boom Pow. It’s hard not to be mesmerized by it. Though the video on YouTube (recorded live) by fergiebr.com is more satisfying.
Now Generation: We all know this generation. It encompasses the “Millennial” or “Y”, and the younger members of the “X” generations. The lyrics are evocative of the impatience that this generation is known for. Again, the characterization as implemented by the group is perfect. Fergie stands out, and this may have something to do with the fact that, being the only female in the group she has an advantage. The male peas’ voices tend to blend, and at times it is difficult to differentiate one from the other. This phenomenon also affects several other tracks.
Party All the Time: As performed and sung by the group, this song reverberates with the younger generations longing to be able to party all the time. If only they could throw all their problems away. There is a wistfulness about it. They know that this is never going to happen. Hell, you can dream about it, can’t you? The beat is infectious.
