A farewell address for Graduation 09'

What a crazy year! We did it. All odds were against us. They challenged our commitment and you proved to all they naysayers, the nonbelievers, to the friends and family that you could achieve anything! Nothing is impossible, when you go hard at it. The expectation was raised this year with an intent to make our community a better place to live in and with your help this past year Graduates it is, your dedication the amount of service contributed to the different places around Boyle Heights and the greater Los Angeles area, you did remarkable work where you gained invaluable experience with colleagues that share your some scholarly vision and excellence. The Grauduates, family, friends, HMS family, and future scholars, history was made this past year in so many incredible ways. The timeline of events and opportunities were rich this past year, From a fantastic haunted house put on by the amazing after school crew to Be the Change Day when parent and student volunteers came together and collaborated on a variety of service projects.
You committed over 3000 hours, your requirements are advanced lets recognize that
This past year was full of growing pains, it was a year where all of us were adapting to the great changes and feeling the strain of our national economic situation. We witnessed a transition of power in our presidency and watched the inauguration of Barack Obama in the auditorium on January 20th, 2009. 8th graders cleaned seal beach, helped at hospitals, painted murals, helped local libraries, assisted politicians with grassroots policymaking, participated in gardening projects, tutored elementary students, assisted a diversity of teachers to better serve educational communities, passed out food at local churches, gave presentations about college fairs, swept and helped clean local businesses like barbershops and flower shops, the list goes on and on. 8th graders were pioneers in this adventure, you were bold enough to ask how you can help and then you challenged yourself even father by completing the service hours and even going above and beyond the
A few pieces of advice as you move on…fear is a great motivator do at least 1 thing that scares you everyday, whether its talking to someone new or getting on stage or studying for an exam.
Be perseverant, don’t let nothing stop you be unstoppable> be bold and be your self-dream big!
Have a strong educational foundation!
Always expect the unexpected…(imagine a life where things were not extraordinary>)
Happy accidents come from doing good.
Be ready to start from the bottom but do not be content there!
I heard a quote from a guy who got this piece of advice from Quincy Jones a great music producer and entrepreneur and that is….listen aint nobody know nothing, see we are all making guesses in life some of us just have a better education

Keep your eye on the prize!
There are many great opportunities but you have to make them!!! Make it happen because if you don’t nobody else will so go make em!!!!
Travel the world but come back home!!!
