Interview Will.i.Am 'Sers' Hotel Paris

“It’s sounds like SHIT man !” shouts Will.i.am. 19 reporters are looking to the frontman of the Black Eyed Peas with a surprised look. ‘aren’t you the one who created this ‘shit’. But he’s not talking about the music, but the sound in the fancy ballroom of ‘The Sers’ hotel in Paris. The listening session is brought by himself in a spectacular way. As an accomplished DJ Will.i.am is posted behind the buttons and is waving wild on every beat with his arms.

--- What is The E.N.D. an awesome dance album ---

“Oh Yeah”, the new single ‘I Gotta Felling’ is cool ey? Me, Will.i.am as a Dj love the entire album. Some songs on the previous albums of the Peas were for home, some songs for in the car and 4 tracks you wanted to hear in a club. The E.N.D. je can hear in a club from beginning to the end.”

--- We heard indeed some potential floorfillers. Could you explain you’re mysterious title ---

“It’s our most energetic album till now. We always must have it from our live performances. The E.N.D. stands for The Energy Never Dies. The title is a wink to the critics who claimed we break up. Briljant, if I should say so myself.”

--- Where you get the energy from ---

“From pasteurized milk, hahaha. Our biggest influence this moment is clubbing. Whenever we can we jump every night into a club. The beats in the undergroundclubs are awesome. There are contests who make’s the biggest beat. For the first time we sound underground, where we came from”.

--- But you’ll never are really been undergound, yet ??? ---

“Many times I hear people say that our third record was bad ( Elephunk) cause we would be to commercial. Ladies and Gentlemen, may I have you’re attention for the lyrics on our first record? ‘We about mass appeal, no segregation. Caught black to asian or caucasian’ On our socalled undergroundalbum we said before, we are POP sensitive as hell!”

--- Is there a beat you would never sample cause of his/her status? ----

“Thriller of Michael Jackson. ( Will.i.am beatboxes the intro). That’s a beat you don’t do. The drums are very simular to: ( another beatbox…)

--- Put up youre hands for Detroit from Fedde la Grand! ---

“Yeah! The first time I heard the intro I thought: What the f*ck is this ?! F*ckin’dope! this shit is even doper then every other hiphopbeat or even Michael Jackson. Al those hiphoppers being rough and tough, they follow up with one’s eyes. Perplexed by a little white guy, not hiphopminded but been able to make the biggest beat. He changed my perpective in music.”

--- You’ve been seen in the movie X-men Origins: Wolverine. Weren’t you affraid to own up? ---

“I realy don’t care what people think about me. Otherwise i wouldn’t walk around in these clothes, hahaha. But serious, i’m a big fan of The X-Men. If they would ask Usher i would be mad. Why in god’s name don’t you take Don Cheadle?! That was i asking myself when stage-manager Gavin Hood asked me. Say no was no option, haha. In the studio I turn emotion into music. Nobody cares when you mis a grade, when it brings the right emotion. Aretha Franklin frequently missed but she touched you with every word. I wanted to translate for one time emotion to a big screen. Gavin Hood worked around my shortcomings perfectly.”

--- You’re a big Nerd. You’re website Dipdive.com, a counterpart of Youtube and Twitter. Do you have a solution for the big downloadcrisis in recordcountry ? ---

“The idea of selling records is dumb. This ( Will.i.am gets an Usb-stick out of his pocket) is not the killer of music, but from scam however. Recordcompanies are scams. Always been. If you have legends like Sam Cooke and Billie Holiday with a worthless contract, then you are a fraud. We have a contract with a company which produce’s or make nothing. We make the records, the record companies uses an old fashioned way to sell records. Fans thinks this way: ‘You’re trying to sell me that disc, while this little usb-stick is free and after listening I can copy many other things to it’ Don’t misunderstand me, I don’t want people to encourage piracy, cause you have to support you’re artist. I’m being realistic. Something’s gotta change and that’s not to decide by the artist. We make make art, nice merchandise and outstanding shows to tour. Record companies have to brainstorm about, what do we provide ???”
