A Woman and Her Struggle

Written by Witerina on August 7, 2009

There is a struggle we fight as an indigenous person.

Even more when you are an indigenous woman.

Local Government we know as district councils,

are trying to remove our people.

An old woman was aressted for 'disturbing the peace',

when she peacefully told police she didn't want to leave,

her home. Her home on her land she grew up on, now

district council wants it to develop.

This old woman was aressted when she protested against a greedy land trust

who gave their burial ground for development. She stood peacefully upon her sacred land,

and police aressted her.

She and her family have until the 31st of August to leave, so the Taupo District Council says.

A Woman and Her Struggle to keep her home. This is the struggle of a Woman Standing.

To my Aunty.....
