Something I need to say

Written by cusulli on May 21, 2009

I am a true fan of PCD, but I have noticed that the line between being a fan and being someone obsessed with a artist/performer/celebrity isn't well drawn out or doesn't exist.

We need role models, we all need someone to look up to - even our role models look up to other people. However, I believe that obsessing over what your idol does every single day, what they wear, what they ate four hours ago isn't healthy.

I admit myself to being a huge fan of Nicole and check on PCD sites everyday! However, I make sure I devote majority of the time to things that will help me develop in my own career and where I want to be in life, including general personal development. I love Beautiful Movements because unlike other celebrities, KImberly takes the time to work through her past experiences and offers her knowledge and puts in all that work and effort for a good cause. She recognises that we are all the same and want similar goals in life and that considering yourself superior to others does no good. Why not spend your time doing something positive and take INSPIRATION from Kimberly to organise something or do something that makes life just a tad bit better for other people?

When I look at Nicole, I see ambition, knowledge, cultural awareness and perhaps the most precious, vulnerability. I see Nicole as a human, someone fighting her way for what she loves doing and putting all her effort into it. It is important that when you admire a person this much, you seek inspiration rather than being obsessed with them and following their every footstep. What if Nicole, as a child remained a "hardcore fan" of say, Diana Ross and never realised her own true potential, the world would have then lost a great artist and she would have missed out on the opportunity of a lifetime.

Fame doesn't only corrupt the celebrity, it corrupts those who avidly follow it, seek it and those who want it. So the next time you see your idol, take them as a person just as me or you, the only difference is that they are successful at what they are doing and work in an industry that the media focuses on. Whatever you do, don't live your own dreams through them. Don't be a sheep, have control of your own life.
