Childhood Days =]
Written by darlene89 on June 29, 2009
My chilhood days were the best days I ever had. I always ended up being lectured by my grandmother because I was mischievous. Therefor, I learned how to have fun and experienced a life without any rules. I grew up in the Philippines. The good thing about growing up in the Philippines is that, you have the freedom to go anywhere you want, even as a kid, as long as you come back home. When I was little, I used to walked to my friends house, which by the way required a long and exhausting walk, and spend my whole entire day playing with them. Everyday after breakfast, I would asked my grandmother if I could play with my friends. At first, she would stare at me like I'm an abstract painting. Then she would talk about her childhood days on how they only had a couple of hours to play outside, which I found very interesting. Finally, she would stop and let me go. I would turn into this high spirited little kid and would start jumping on the couch like when Tom Cruise wowed the nation when he started doing the same thing on the Oprah Winfrey Show. While walking down the streets, other kids would stop me and ask me to play with them. My response to them was "No thanks, maybe later." Then I realize that the meaning of the word "Later" for me was "Never". My neighborhood street was full of blithe and active faces. Sometimes it felt like I was part of that movie called Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, on where the Umpa Lumpa's would sing and dance joyfully like there was no tomorrow. People in my neighborhood did not seem to care about their impecunious lives. Being and eating together with their family was good enough for them. After a long exhausting day of playing, my friends and I would say our goodbyes and we would all go home. Everytime I reached home, my plain white shirt would turn into brown and it would looked like a map, because of the spots of dirt that were bind to it. My grandmother would command me to take a bath and eat dinner. This was basically my daily routine as a child. I would eat, play, and sleep like every other kid would do. When I started going to school, the first thing I would finished, was my homework. Then I would wonder around the streets, bother the elders, and play with other kids. I would then do the same routine the next day. Now that I''m aging, I still daydream about those days where I was free to do anything I wanted and those days where I took advantage of the time I had just to have a great time. I would always have that smile on my face everytime I reminisce of those unforgettable memories. For some reason, I sometimes end up being in a situation where people would stare at me awkwardly like they've never seen someone who smiled so widely before.
