Who is DJ XX ?

Where are all the ladies at?

The electronic music scene, in particular regards to the gender ratio, tends to always have a male aficionado of the turntable profession at the head seat of the arena. Slide, this past Saturday, surprisingly had a female DJ leading the dance floor of the scene to be seen. She spun, for the most part, commercial house and dance tracks; but with Slide's strict playlist guidelines, you would have to hear her at a more liberal venue before making a proper opinion about her ear for music. There was a nostalgic sound from the days of Thursday nights with Donovan at Slide. While in previous years, Donovan would spin tracks such as the "World is mine" by David Guetta, and "Put your hands up for Detroit" by Fedde le Grand, mystery DJ XX opted for the more current 92.7 tracks including Klaas' remix of "Infinity" by Guru Josh Project.
You would not peg Slide to be a spot targeted towards the electronic music connoisseurs of SF; however, it is still a satellite of the infamous grand-master upscale venue in the heart of SF, better known as Ruby Skye. Not only as a product, but also a neighbor of Ruby Skye, Slide was innately destined to carry electronic music in its genes. For the majority of people that are familiar with Ruby Skye, it is known for its massive sound system, its Saturday night big name DJ's, and being a definite tourist and B&T hot-spot. The managers of Ruby Skye produced an ingenious idea to create a venue that, rather than being known for it's sound system and DJ's, would be a smaller more intimate spot targeted towards the upscale SF nightlife scene, which in turn bore Slide. Having Ruby Skye's genes coded into its make-up, there will be subtle ganders into the world of electro; however, the main-stream commercial radio demographic will always be calling the shots at this spot.
Mystery DJ XX carried her own at Slide this past weekend, especially with the pressure of carrying a Saturday night. You could barely see her over the DJ tables, but she must have sparked a curiosity amongst the people in the crowd who recognized the rarity of a female "non-go-go dancing" stage dweller. In hopes of progressing the DJ XX movement, there should be club nights that support this very cause. You know that the main driving force behind the club industry are females. No matter how good the sound is, a club full of guys just isn't going to cut it.
