The Intro of the album is more a whole song than an intro you know from other albums. It shows immediatly the new way Kelis is going on this album: an awsome electro dance album produced by the best in this genre. 22nd Century is the first absolute highlight on this record. With a lot of 'sience-fiction' and 'technology' the song reaches the top, when it 'takes you away to the stars'. 4th of July is my absolute favourite track. The instrumentals by DJ Ammo are just incredible and absolutely worth to get a Instrumental version of this song. Last Kelis voice make it an epic track. You can really feel her when she is saying 'Nothing I'll ever say or do will be as good as loving you!'. Home also marks another highlight, which can be found everytime you press next. Starting by a spoken intro and the chorus Kelis sings a great melody to the Verses. Acapella is the first single. It can be named easily after Boom Boom Pow, having nearly the same structure of straight beats with a simple but great message. Scream is also produced by David Guetta. Also starting with the chorus you know from the beginning what to expect from the rest of the song but you don't expect these crazy beats then... . Emancipate starts with simple piano accords and followed electro beats. Demanding us the 'emancipate ourselves' nearly 100 times she gives also reasons why and you can just guess if there is a connection to recent happenings in Kelis' life. Brave is a Bennasi/will.i.am produced track and this says all. You are obsessed by the track and the beat from the first seconds and the real highlight is from 2:26 - 2:50. AWSOME. The album ends with Song for the Baby. It starts with a crazy melody followed by a just feel-happy tune.
Summary:
Flesh Tone is an awsome album and definitly one of the best albums not only of summer 2010 but also the whole year. Kelis doesn't make the mistake like a lot of artists (Aguilera is the latest example) to release an album with a LOT of songs, which just fill the record. She understands it to pick just the best and deliver an album that is epic from one song to the other.
Note:
this review shows my opinion - you can agree or disagree after you have listen to the album on your own - feel free to show your opinion as a commenth
