Circle of life

Written by haggied on April 8, 2009

Everyday I pass my local cemetery going to work. Every second or third day I see diggers there digging new graves for those who have recently passed away. Gradually I see those graves come closer to the road as I pass it.

This might seem like such a simple and silly thing to notice but everyday it reminds me how quickly life changes and how without realising it death can come to you, just like the graves coming closer to me on the road as I pass it.

In my job I treat anyone -  as young as 0, as old as 97 (my oldest patient to date) so I am constantly reminded about the circle of life. As I treat almost 3000 people a year, I am bound to be exposed to all sorts of personal situations and circumstances and I feel this makes me look at life differently. I have tragically lost a couple of patients young due to different circumstances and it again reminds me how quickly things can change and we cannot predict everything.

I take little for granted and try to live each day the best I can. Why be down when life is so precious. I'm not saying life is easy but take each new day as a challenge and look around you and appreciate what is really there.

Nothing in life is worth stressing about. We are who we are and all that should matter is love, peace, family and friends.

Love your life and live it how you want to but remember love everyone in the way you want treated. It's surprising how love can spread when it is openly shared.
