Virtual Echo - Another Cool Augmented Reality App
Written by kflores on October 15, 2009
Another pretty cool augmented reality app has popped up - sure it's in the guise of a sexy promotional gimmick for the underrated Fox television show, Dollhouse, but it's still pretty cool.
The Adobe Air app was pretty lightweight to download and install and they smartly only front-load it with enough data / video samples to get you started. You can download additional "Echo" character animations.
OK, so the virtual girl on the screen animations have been seen a LONG time ago (you know what I'm talking about), but that's not the interesting stuff - this app also has the print out the funky graphic on your printer and point it at your webcam augmented reality component. When you do it, 3D virtual graphics appear on your screen display in relation to the graphic in your real space.
I can't exactly explain why I find these so cool, you'll have to try it out yourself to see what you think.
Oh, if you're in to pseudo sci-fi storylines with strong female characters, this show by Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator, Joss Whedon, is definitely worth checking out. It just started its second season.
